Overall Weekend Schedule:
Saturday August 20th:

9:00am --> youth chicken show registration, judging to follow

12:00pm --> Silkie tabletop competition

12:30pm --> youth poultry showmanship

1:00pm --> meet the birds

4:00pm--> bird take-home
Sunday August 21st

9:00am --> youth alternate poultry show registration, judging to follow

4:00pm --> bird take-home
-
After 4:00pm--> Volunteers welcome to assist clean-up
EVENT DETAILS:
Youth Chicken Show:

Will be judged by Fred Gordon

Will be judged according to APA standards
-
Is open to anyone under 20

Is Saturday August 20th

Registration 9am judging to follow
-
Birds must be taken home by 4pm that day
-
Chickens only
-
Only 1 bird per person per subdivision (ex. 1 marans rooster 1 marans hen but not 2 marans hens)
-
Bring your own cages
-
A few cages available to borrow- first come first serve only.
-
Bring your own feed/water/dishes
-
You are responsible for feeding/watering your birds
-
Clerks will assist you with registration
-
A list of bird breed, age, gender, and variety is recommended to make registration faster.
Youth “Meet the Birds”
-
We ask YAPA members to be in the building at 1pm, take out their birds and talk to public.
-
This takes place on Saturday.
Silkie Tabletop Show
-
Is open to all ages
-
There is no registration
-
1 bird per person per bird age/gender category
-
Must be at chicken building at 12:00 sharp Saturday August 20th.
-
Birds will be called up by age/gender division
-
Participants must pose their birds on a table.
-
Silkies may be shown in both the tabletop or regular shows
-
To show in the regular youth show silkies must follow normal registration process.
Youth Poultry Showmanship

Registration 12:30 with judging to follow Saturday August 20th
-
Knowledge/skill competition; participants wear dress shirt or YAPA club shirt

Age categories:

8 and under
-
9-11

12+

Each child shows one bird

Presents bird to judge

Poses bird+ places in cage

Answers knowledge questions

Purebred fowl only please.
Youth Alternate Poultry Competition:

Final Notes:

Show is open to anyone under 20, not just YAPA members

YAPA member volunteers are needed to help at the yard sale fundraiser at the fair

YAPA members asked to spend time talking about poultry to public

You ARE allowed to take out your birds AFTER judging
-
Remember you are representing Algoma poultry-keepers. Make sure your birds don’t have bugs, leg mites, illnesses, and are clean and presentable.
